Ian has kindly agreed to appear at The History Boot Camp 2008 to present a session on 15th century Courtesy, Table Manners and Etiquette on Sunday 6th April.

Starting at 1pm, topics covered will be:

The names and responsibilities of the major servants
Laying of tables
Grace before and after meals
Terms of a Carver
Table Manners
Who sits where? [e.g. Royal banquets!]
Numbers dining in a messe, and allowances
Original Sources – for further study
Role play – putting it into practice.

The presentation will be a serious study of the fascinating topic of Courtesy in the 15th century – easily adaptable to late 14th or early 16th century re-enactment. The event location is
